Effective March 15, 2022, the Vietnamese government has resumed pre-pandemic visa issuance policies. All previous visa restrictions have been lifted.

The first document issued by the Government of Vietnam on Tuesday agreed to resume its unilateral visa exemption policy for citizens from 13 countries as Vietnam seeks to reopen inbound tourism after nearly two years of closure. As such, citizens of Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and Sweden, as well as the United Kingdom, will be permitted to visit Vietnam without a visa for up to 15 days regardless of passport type or purpose of entry.

Visitors from most other ASEAN countries do not require a visa for up to 30 days. The waiver was for 21 days for visitors from the Philippines and 14 days for those from Brunei and Myanmar.

Vietnam also granted e-visas to citizens of 80 countries that allowed them to apply for a 30-day with a single entry.

Upon arrival, the Ministry of Health requires travelers entering Vietnam to have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel or a rapid test within 24 hours. Competent health authorities must administer and certify COVID-19 tests. Visitors are required to self-monitor their health at home for ten days following their arrival, and travelers without COVID-19 symptoms are not required to enter quarantine. These requirements apply to all modes of transport, including land, air, rail, and sea, and travelers who present a positive test are subject to Ministry of Health regulations, including quarantine.

This is such good news for many people who are wishing to come to Vietnam for either tourism or business purpose with short-term staying. Please note, if you seek a long-term stay in Vietnam, you should seek for a proper purpose as such Investment, Work, Marriage or Studying ( See how many long-term stay permits are available in Vietnam). A tourist visa should not be the direction a person should go if they plan to live in Vietnam permanently.
